On salue à juste titre les albums qui accomplissent un tour de force : le premier album éponyme de Subterranean Disposition en fait cinq — un sur chaque piste, ni plus ni moins. En plus d'un death/doom metal très engageant qui plaira aux amateurs de My Dying Bride, il se démarque par ses excursions avant-gardistes qui s'intègrent parfaitement, tantôt folk, tantôt bruitistes voire jazz ! Et on peut même en rajouter un sixième : cet album est l'œuvre d'une seule personne ! C'est très ambitieux !

Avec un genre donné, certains groupes vont le révolutionner tandis que d'autres vont le perfectionner : Lycanthia fait le second. Oligarchy, deuxième et ultime album du sextette australien, est une perle de death/doom metal gothique qui utilise violon et chants féminins et évite les écueils classiques. Le violon n'est pas qu'un faire-valoir et peut briller lors de nombreux morceaux de bravoure ; pas de styles "La Belle et la Bête" : Vanessa Black et Megan Robins ont l'ascendant. Excellent !!
